Hank Williams: 40 Greatest Hits (1978)

This episode is pleasant but not memorable even though it features more hits than Bobby Bonilla because this week we become the best podcast about Hank Williams and the 132nd greatest album of all time, Hank Williams 40 Greatest Hits. 

 

But before we get to the album we talk about some other stuff, because variety is the spice of life. First, we take a voicemail from an old friend, which leads to some stories about tobacco, a cheese ball container, a fire extinguisher, and a magic penny. Then we discuss eating tacos and lingerie shopping, how kids ruin our ability to enjoy our favorite activities and laying low at events with extended friends. We also become the best MMA podcast when we talk about being humbled at jiu-jitsu. And for those of you wondering, yes we're only at album 132 and we are going back to the ovipositor jokes.

 

Then at (48:00) we have our own little curtain call when we discuss Hank Williams and the 1978 compilation of his 40 Greatest Hits. We discuss Hank Williams's songwriting ability, the best songs with mandolins, and how Hank's catchy tunes can shoot daggers right in your heart. 

 

Next week the guys will eat some black crow, proving again that this is the best Joni Mitchell podcast when we discuss her folk-rock album, Hejira. 

Portishead: Dummy (1994)

For all you lot lizards out there it could be sweet if you downloaded this week's episode which is about Portishead and the 131st greatest album of all time, Dummy. You don't need a Double D long haul truckers license to ride these roads!

 

But before we get to the music, we respond to an email about unopened gifts and wonder what's in the glory box. We then give the best Valentine's Day advice, discuss work happy hours, and ponder how the NBA trade deadline has us grappling with our own mortality. We also become the only podcast to ever talk about the Golden Girls, as we ponder a love triangle with the main host, JLo, and Blanch.

 

Then at (48:00) we put this album on a pedestal and discuss Portishead's debut studio album, Dummy. We discuss Trip Hop music, Portishead's instrumentation choices, and the best James Bond theme songs.

 

Next week's episode should be paired with jambalaya, a crawfish pie, and fillet gumbo because son of a gun we'll have some big fun when we become the best Hank Williams podcast and discuss his 40 Greatest Hits compilation. 

130. Prince: 1999 (1982) [It’s confusing!]

If you didn't come to party don't bother downloading this episode because this is the best podcast about Prince and the 130th greatest album of all time, 1999.

 

But before we get to the album, this episode gets deliciously weird when we discuss bidets (again), the worst part about going to a legal brothel, and botox services. We also discuss getting upgraded at a hotel, amateur bartending classes, and your goto foods...good luck guessing who picked hamachi crudo.

 

Then at (1:00:00) we pretend we're married and go all night when we discuss Prince's fifth studio album, 1999. We discuss Prince's obsession with the funk, his ability to turn a phrase, and the best songs with misheard lyrics.
